“Through dance, I try to understand the sources from which traditional dances emanate, the process of impregnation and contagion in which they are constructed, based on the social and political reality that influenced the concretion of this work: the military legacy, dictatorship, authoritarian regimes, revolution, war and relocation. The need for this creation is related to the way in which the issue of revolutions in the Middle East is transmitted. My goal is to define the identity of the Syrian body, the recognized, lived and built heritage. What is the identity of a society formed under the rule of a colonial dictatorship? Are a body that has experienced war and a body that has experienced migration two different bodies? It is urgent and necessary for me to show the world the reality of the Syrian conflict, as a hope for full, future freedom.”
These are words by the choreographer Mithkal Alzghair, author of this work that brings to the forefront the issues of the war in Syria, valuing the heritage of a country devastated by absurd interests. In the bodies of the dancers, life resists. The duel is also elaborated by dancing with the others.
