Extensively experienced in clubs around the world, Cecilia Bengolea and François Chaignaud decided to turn dance clubs into anthropological research centers. Finding a unique way to highlight the organic nature of this dance and install it in a proper graphic layout was a challenge ahead for these curious dancers, surrounded for the occasion by another three artists (Alex Mugler, Ana Pi and Elisa Yvelin) and famous DJs from the London Grime scene (Elijah & Skilliam, London label Butterz). The stage becomes a melting-pot mixing current dance, ranging from Jamaican dancehall to House and Twerk, along with musical research by a DJ who transforms sounds. The expressive power of these extreme dances create an area for shared confraternity and contemporary poetry.
Cecilia Bengolea and François Chaignaud
Dancers and choreographers, Cecilia Bengolea and François Chaignaud have been collaborating since 2005. Theirs are Pâquerette (2005-2008), Sylphides (2009), Castor et Pollux (2010) Danses Libres (based on choreography by Malkovsky François and Suzanne Bodak, 2010), (M)IMOSA (with Trajal Harrell and Marlene Monteiro Freitas, 2011) and DUB LOVE (2013), Bengolea & Chaignaud. Following the idea of this edition of the festival, theirs is a unique quality of movement with which they have managed to always be seen acting from the outside and from excess. A total dance that does not separate the different parts of life, but integrates them and conceives them as a whole, uniting the popular and the sacred, the private and the public, leisure and art.
